Born and raised in Kearney, Scott is very knowledgable of the community. He lives in Kearney with his wife Jean; who is a special education teacher for the Kearney Public Schools.

Scott's hobbies include golfing, volleyball, waterskiing, and digital photography.

Community Service is an important aspect in Scott's life. He belongs to the Kearney Jaycees, serves on the City of Kearney Cable Commission, and is the State Treasurer for the Nebraska Council of Residential Specialist Chapter. He also serve on the Physical Learning Environment Committee for Kearney Public Schools and the City of Kearney Meadowlark Hills Golf Advisory Board as well as being an active member of St Luke's Episcopal Church.
